Cleansing our body of THE DANGEROUS PFAS CHEMICALS

Daily Kos has already had two recent articles on the PFAS ( FOREVER CHEMICALS -they “do not break down in the environment.” In other words, they last forever.  )  According to the article;

PFAS are important because they can kill you and the ones you love. Only one party gives a damn

I quote;

Why PFAS should scare the bejeezus out of you

“PFAS have been used since the WWII era, and are dead useful because they repel both oil and water. You’ll find them in all kinds of household products, from nonstick pans to numerous different cleaning products, to food packaging—such as pizza boxes—to storage containers, clothing, furniture, carpets, and far more. So PFAS are everywhere, they last forever, and, unfortunately, multiple studies show they cause:

  • Testicular, kidney, liver, and pancreatic cancer

  • Reproductive problems

  • Weakened childhood immunity

  • Low birth weight

  • Endocrine disruption

  • Increased cholesterol

  • Weight gain in children and dieting adults”

These chemicals are everywhere and the other Daily Kos article explains part of the reason;

Cropland may be contaminated by sewage sludge packed with PFAS

“A report from the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit dedicated to studying pollutants in agriculture and drinking water and advocating for corporate accountability, last month found that as many as 20 million acres of U.S. croplands may be contaminated. The reason? Frequently, farmers use “biosolids”—the friendlier name for sewage sludge, a byproduct of wastewater treatment—to fertilize crops without knowing what that sludge may contain. EWG found that “forever chemicals” like perfluoroalkanes (PFAS), also called perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are prevalent in much of this sludge.”

Everyone probably has these chemicals in their body and will continue to accumulate even more because they are in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the bottled water we drink, even the toothpaste we use each day.

We can reverse this accumulation of these dangerous chemicals and eliminate many of them!

The Austrian government ran a test on a number of firefighters that lasted for a year.  Firefighters have more of the PFAS chemicals in their blood because the chemical is found in firefighting foam.  These firefighters had also been fighting open range fires as well.  What they found was that those firefighters who donated blood and plasma saw a reduction of PFAS chemicals in their blood.  Even after the period of the trial, the level remained decreased for a period of time.  With all the possible side effects on us as adults, on children and even on those still in the womb, this is something most of us can do and not only improve our lives, but possibly save the lives of others.  WIN! WIN! WIN!

“Key Points

Question Can levels of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in the blood be reduced by blood or plasma donations?

Findings  In this randomized clinical trial of 285 firefighters, both blood and plasma donations resulted in significantly lower PFAS levels than observation alone. Plasma donation was the most effective intervention, reducing mean serum perfluorooctane sulfonate levels by 2.9 ng/mL compared with a 1.1-ng/mL reduction with blood donation, a significant difference; similar changes were seen with other PFASs.

Meaning  Blood or plasma donations may be used to reduce serum PFAS levels.

Abstract

Importance Elevated levels of blood perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have been associated with a range of adverse health outcomes. Firefighters have been exposed to PFASs in firefighting foams and have previously been shown to have higher PFAS levels in blood samples than the general population. No interventions have been shown to reduce PFAS levels.

Objective  To examine the effect of blood or plasma donations on PFAS levels in firefighters in Australia.

Design, Setting, and Participants This 52-week, open-label, randomized clinical trial enrolled participants from May 23 to August 23, 2019. Participants were 285 Fire Rescue Victoria staff or contractors with serum levels of perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) of 5 ng/mL or more who were eligible to donate blood, had not donated blood in the 3 months prior to randomization, and were able to provide written informed consent. Analysis was performed on an intention-to-treat basis from May to July 2021.”
